Case Report 5: Euthnasia vs. Natural Death
A 72 years old terminally breast cancer woman with lung, bone, liver and brain metastasis appeared semicoma. She also had complications of sepsis and upper G-J bleeding. The hospice doctor told the patient's relatives that blood transfusion and antibiotics had no benefit to her, it just prolong dying rather than prolong life. However, the relatives considered that this is passive euthanasia and insisted on those treatments.
Didcussion: Should we use blood transfusion and antibiotics according to the request of the patient's family members? Should we have a legal protection such as Natural Death Act?
